As an aspiring novelist, I know how important it is to stand out from the crowd of writers that flood the world of published and self-published books every day. And I knew Franzi was the best person to help me achieve this. She encouraged me to be brave enough to stand out and embrace the orange. She was a joy to work with and truly excited about the project. I couldn’t be happier with my Visual Identity, it truly conveys what I’m all about.
Elske Newman is a Word Wizard.
Many times I have given her a rough draft of a blog post or some web copy and got back a polished and inviting piece of writing in the exact tone I was struggling to convey myself. Her writing style is clean, concise and to the point. In addition to her copywriting projects, she is also editing her first novel Left Behind.
Elske wanted her Visual Identity to match her clean style of writing. She liked the thought of using bright orange which is the national colour of her home country, Holland. A strong but unusual font was also high on the wish list. We wanted a fun ‘e’ and as soon as we saw the cackling ‘e’ of Vesterbro by Blackfoundry we knew that was the one. This combined with the beautiful ligatures in the contrasting gentle typeface produced the exact effect we were looking for.
To add to the drama, we worked on an accompanying illustration which traces Elske’s own handwriting, written down with her favourite fountain pen, a 1960’s lady Shaeffer. It decorates her new business card – a bookmark.
The end result is a Visual Identity which perfectly matches not only her fun and bold personality, but also her professional approach and creative flair with words.
