Local Suffolk photographer Caroline Horne specialises in commercial and lifestyle photography and captures the occasional wedding too. I was thrilled when she asked me to help with her new brand identity. I have been a fan of her work for a while. In fact, she truly captured my personality in the portrait image, which you can see on my homepage.
Caroline’s work has a very distinctive style: it comprises a particular softness, luxuriousness and an almost dreamy quality. She loves to experiment with depths of field, macro photography and captures interesting and surprising details, colours and contrasts. Her imagery is just a joy to look at.
From the outset our aim was to create a visual identity framework, which translates the features of Caroline’s style and puts her stunning work in the spotlight. To let Caroline’s photographic work speak for itself and to appeal to both, corporate and private clients we designed a pared back, classic and chic visual identity. The new identity is based on a grey & white colour palette with a sophisticated word mark and blends a timeless serif with contemporary sans serif typeface. We used large amounts of white space and frames in the style of Polaroid pictures to set Caroline’s photography beautifully in scene.
"As a photographer, a good eye for detail is a high priority to create a crisp, clean image for the customer. This too is a key element to choosing a graphic designer to style a new brand identity. Caroline Horne Suffolk Photography is well into its second year of trading and it was time for a new conceptual image, taking it to a higher level. This, for me, certainly required the right designer who I could work closely with, turning ideas into visuals whilst understanding the direction in which I want my business to develop.
I had met Franzi about a year ago at a networking event where I was photographing and Franzi purchased the portrait which now greets you on her home page. From this, and having seen Franzi’s own portfolio of work, her style and work ethics, I thought she would be the most suitable and talented person to design my brand identity. Her attention to detail is outstanding; her work is clean, crisp and concise. When you meet Franzi, her knowledge of graphic design is huge. She has a warming and professional approach to her work, understands your needs and is very sympathetic. She will work with you, listen to all your ideas and concepts before delivering a masterpiece. If something needs a tweak here or there it can be done with no trouble whatsoever. Franzi is a pleasure to work with; she is not pushy and has a great eye for style, both classic and modern."
